We are dedicated exhibitor/breeders who are active in and encourage participation in all aspects of dog related activities. We pride ourselves for being open to other points of view, new educational programs, updated rules and regulations and, most important, to have an opportunity to share our concerns, information and ideas with other knowledgeable English Cocker breeders.
We have a very small breeding program, based on the standard set by our Parent Club for English Cockers. We breed solely for ourselves, not because there is a demand for puppies, or that we are looking for recognition or a string of top winning dogs. This is a hobby we enjoy, with dogs we love. That means only a few litters a year, if any at all. Overall type, soundness, and temperament govern our choices for breeding. We retain the best of the litter for future showing and possible breeding. Although not all dogs kept are bred. And if our choice doesn’t come up to our expectations, we will place him/her in a loving family home. Once finished, often times we’ll place a dog in a “retirement” home where they live their lives as a spoiled member of a family. Most puppies are placed in loving homes and become an integral part of a family.
- We don’t breed for color, but quality dogs. So we can’t guarantee the color or sex.
- We health check and certify with OFA, CERF and Optigen, the sire and dam, for hips, eyes, and temperament and go back into their pedigrees.
- We strive to insure our puppies are placed in loving, life-long committed homes.
- We are concerned with and protective of the puppy’s welfare.
- We screen prospective owners to ensure a good match between the puppy and the buyer.
- We’ll be happy to provide you with our references.
- We are always available for advise, training and grooming, and of course visits!
- We will take back any of our puppies/dogs, at any time in their lifetime!
Our puppies are raised in the bedroom and family room, are lovingly cared for, and socialized. Puppies do not go to new homes as a trained, well-mannered finished product, although we do start housebreaking, crate training and grooming.
Puppies are Temperament Tested using the Pet Aptitude Test (PAT) at seven weeks to match the right puppy to the right home whenever possible. Since we observe them during their development and obviously know them better than potential owners, we will work with you in making decisions about which puppy goes to which home. There is much more to selecting a puppy than size, friendliness and activity level.
Puppies receive inoculations to protect them from canine Distemper, Hepatitis, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Leptrospirosis, Parvovirus and Coronavirus during their young weeks with us. We would expect that you would continue these vaccinations through their fourth month and yearly thereafter.
Pet puppies are placed on a Limited Registration (cannot be bred from, without my approval) with the AKC and a spay/neuter contract without exception. This contract and Limited Registration entails a $50.00 refundable deposit at the time of sale, and will be refunded 7 business days upon receipt of proof of altering (at about 5-6 months of age) from your veterinarian. As you may have found while searching for a puppy, our English Cocker community is well networked and as exhibitors/breeders we talk to each other on a routine basis. We all strive to maintain the quality of the breed. We do not want to see our breed being over-bred like their American cousins, so please respect our protection methods.
Our show prospects are selected between eight and 10 weeks of age. A few show prospects will be allowed to go into pet homes with a co-ownership agreement. The details of the contract will be negotiated between us.
Before taking your puppy home, you will receive valuable information on training and care of your puppy, a list of the proper equipment and supplies to obtain, and a sample copy of our contract. When you pick up your puppy, we will sign a completed contract and your puppy’s registration slip, you will also be given a certified copy of the pedigree, health records, puppy food and feeding instructions. You will also be given a binder with even more information on English Cockers that will provide you with a valuable reference source.
As a new owner you will be responsible for the future development of the puppy’s personality, through training, guidance, and love. To ensure our puppies are going to receive the love they so richly deserve throughout their lives, we request all potential buyers to complete the questionnaire under Contact Us. The questionnaire is lengthy, but it gives us a better perspective as to your family life style and plans with your English Cocker.
Remember that you will take home a living being that requires as much attention and love as a child. Their needs require love and structured discipline. English Cockers are very people-oriented, and look for leadership and companionship. We are asking you to make a life-long commitment to your new puppy. If the timing for a new puppy is not convenient at this time please consider waiting until you can devote yourself to his well-being and request that you be maintained on our contact/waiting list.
If you are interested in becoming a future owner we do require a completed questionnaire be sent to us as soon as possible for reference checks.
